Finding and using services
Choosing NDIS providers and arranging your supports
Finding NDIS service providers often starts with a search, but choosing one involves much more than a list of names. You need to know whether a service understands your needs, works in your area and can provide support in a way that suits you. Clear information makes it easier to have those conversations before making a commitment.
The articles here cover choosing and reviewing providers, working with support coordinators and recovery coaches, and understanding service agreements and costs. They offer questions to ask, things to compare and ways to describe what good support looks like in your own life. Some also share experiences that can help you recognise what matters to you.
Think about the practical details as well as the service itself. Ask who will deliver the support, how appointments or shifts are arranged and what happens when someone is unavailable. Discuss communication preferences, accessibility and any experience that is important to you. A provider's response can tell you a lot about how the relationship might work.
If you are helping a family member, leave room for their preferences and decisions. For support coordinators, the same questions can support a fair comparison of options. Reviews can add useful context, but they are one part of the picture alongside a conversation with the provider and the terms of the service.
Your funding management arrangements also affect which providers you can use. Check the NDIA's current guidance on choosing providers before booking, including any registration requirements for the support you need.
A good match is personal. It might depend on language, location, reliability, specialist experience or simply feeling listened to. Use this collection to narrow your search, prepare for an introductory conversation and decide whether the service is right for you. There is value in asking those questions early.
